- Start Windows Explorer, Windows NT Explorer, My Computer.
- Apply the right mouse button to snap the drive containing the floppy disk you wish to format, and then click Data Format on the menu that appears.
- In the Format dialog box, click the choices you want to use to format the disk, and then click Start.
Options that are available:
This will depend on the floppy disk that we are formatting, most discs are now 1.44Mb, it is better to exit this selection as it is.
FAT or NTFS, FAT is the right file system for floppy disks, still if you get a utility set up to enable NTFS floppies so select NTFS, if you are unsure or FAT is the just alternative then just leave it on FAT.
Allocation Unit Size: This should be left on the default option unless you have a cause to change it.
Volume Label: This is where you can enter a label for your floppy disk, just typewrite the name into the box, in our case we have made the disk New Disk.
Quick Format: This selection can be chosen if the disc takes previously been formatted and you only want to loose the data off the disc.
Create an MS-DOS startup disk: This option can be used to copy system files over to produce a bootable system disc .
When you have chose the options that you want merely click on the Start button.
Later snapping Start you will be given a warning informing you that every informations on the floppy disk will be erased, assuming there is no data on the floppy that you require click ok.
Later On clicking OK you will see a advance measure and that will be observed by an alert informing you about the status of the format, i.e. whether it gone prosperous or not.
If you desire to format some other Floppy Disc then insert a other volume label and after that click the Start button in the format dialog box over again.
When complete click Close button.Your floppy disk is formatted and can be used to store your data files.
