How to format Drive C

Formatting drive C: is complete with a a few mouse clicks using the Disk Managment of Win 2000 or Win. XpThe option "format" still is grey for the drive C: or wherever Windows itself is placed. This choice is deactivated because the system does not allow to pass over itself off the drive.
If you want to format this drive nonetheless, apply this style:
Put the installation XP CD or Windows 2000 into the CD drive gathering and start the computer over again. It should shortly say "Press a key to start from CD".
If not, you have to change the boot sequence in the computer´s BIOS. Other choice is to use a special role key which points a boot computer menu where you can chose the CD drive, if offered. The most common keys for this are [F12] and [Esc].

With the first screen of the setup program select "R" to enable the repair mode. The following screen allows you to choose a Windows installation for repair and requires for its admin password afterwards .

Directly you take a command line user interface. Enter "map" here and you will get an overview of all partitions and their corresponding drive letter.
If you had sure which drive you want to format, typewrite the command "format", followed by the drive letter like

Format C:

The system will then format the drive with the identical file system typewrite that the drive already has. Applying the parameter "/fs:" you can pick out a file system. If for example you wish to format drive C: with NTFS you enter

format C: /fs:ntfs

To leave the console, type exit.
